Honda teases recent EVs with Space-Hub, Saloon concept cars

Honda Motor revealed two concept cars Tuesday on the CES tech conference as a preview for a recent lineup of electrified vehicles that can begin arriving in North America in 2026.

The concept models are called the “Space-Hub” and “Saloon,” which the primary production “Honda 0 Series” EV shall be based on, based on the Japanese automaker. Honda says the brand new “0 Series” of vehicles are being developed under three core principles: “Thin, light and smart.”

“We’ll create a totally recent value from zero based on thin, light and smart as the muse for our recent Honda 0 EV series to further advance the enjoyment and freedom of mobility to the subsequent level,” Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said in a release.

Honda plans to introduce the primary model of the Honda 0 Series based on the Saloon concept in North America, followed by model introductions in Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and South America.

The Saloon is a sleek, futuristic-looking vehicle that seems fit for “Tron” movies, with a big open-mouthed front-end light in neon lighting with a redesigned Honda “H” in the middle. The back, just like the front, includes a large indented rectangular area with red lighting around the inside with “Honda” in the middle.

Inside, the Saloon includes a minimalistic digital cockpit with a yoke steering wheel, which is analogous to concept cars from other corporations which have debuted at CES. To enter, a big falcon wing door opens upward from the roof of the vehicle.

The Space-Hub is a minivan/shuttle that features the identical kind of design characteristics because the smaller Saloon but in larger formats. Its interior includes a similar cockpit, nevertheless it has a cavernous back area with lounge-type seating.

Each concepts look like designed to feature autonomous driving capabilities: the steering yoke is in a position to retract into the dashboard of every.

Honda said 0 Series will first feature a complicated driver-assistive system based on technologies first deployed in Japan, followed by a next-generation “automated driving,” or AD, system. The corporate says the upcoming system will expand using some hands-off functions to be used on each expressways and surface streets. 

“The subsequent generation AD system is being developed based on Honda’s ‘human-centric’ safety concept. It should feature advanced AI, sensing, recognition and driver monitoring technologies to attain more human-like, natural and high-precision risk predictions, making it possible to supply AD features people can feel secure and assured using,” Honda said in the discharge.

Honda didn’t release exact specifications or performance expectations for the concept vehicles or upcoming EVs aside from projections for recharging.

The corporate said the Honda 0 Series models launching within the late 2020s shall be able to fast charging from 15% to 80% of battery capability in about 10 to quarter-hour.
