The International Energy Agency warns that the EU’s efforts to end its reliance on Russian gas are simply not enough. The agency says the bloc is set to have insufficient gas supplies to see it through winter, if Russia turns off the taps. The message from the IEA came just as Russia’s Gazprom reportedly sent a letter to European importers declaring “force majeure” on deliveries down the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany. The state gas producer said “extraordinary circumstances” meant the resumption of flows was beyond its control. Germany’s government says it’s now considering whether to extend the life of its three remaining nuclear power plants to alleviate the looming crisis. Meanwhile, the EU signed an agreement with Azerbaijan on Monday to double gas imports to Europe in the coming years.
In 2021, Russia sent 155 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the European Union. The Nord Stream 1 pipeline alone has the capacity to send 55 BCMs in a year. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan sent a total of 8 billion cubic meters to the EU last year. Under the deal, it is now expected to deliver still only 12 billion this year. So that wouldn’t even come close to replacing flows down Nord Stream 1, let alone Russia as a whole. Is the prospect of Russia stopping all supplies to the EU by the winter a realistic one?

BEV could be the automobile of the future and HYDROGEN could be the fuel of future for humanity that can replace fossil fuels.
Thats why we so desperately need to step over to nuclear energy
I think neither Germany nor Europe seem to fully understand nearing avalanche of energy crisis. They still seem relaxed as if there were immediate alternatives.
EU leaders should have their heads examined about their wishful thinking on energy. Boycotting the nearest and cheapest energy supplier is a foolish policy in any context. It is the duty of EU leaders providing affordable energy to it's citizens. The economic fall out of these self imposed sanctions are a far greater threat to the prosperity, stability and security of the EU, than Russia could ever impose on the EU.
Europe is paying the price for not having reduced dependency on fossil fuels despite all the rhetoric about it for the last several decades. That is why this net zero target by 2050 is unrealistic, especially if Europe continues with its rhetoric but not actually doing anything, or very little.
And even if renewables do eventually supply enough power to a world population that is huge and increasing by many thousands every single day, it will be at least a few decades before that happens.
Declared a proxy war on a country and never thought they might turn off the taps as a tactic against you
Hmm, so it is OK to import Natural Gas from Russia, but developing German natural gas resources are not permitted.
In June 2016, Germany’s coalition government agreed to ban all hydraulic fracturing in the country, subject only to narrow exceptions for test drilling, which is further subject to permission from the respective state government.30 The legislation implementing the ban calls for the Bundestag to reassess its decision in 2021.
Don't worry Germany. The winter will be cold and the sweat will be lower. No need to shower 🙂 Start praying for global heating now 😂
1) Close all nuclear power plants in Germany for “safety” reasons.
2) Open coal power plants instead.
3) In order to “combat climate change” start to close coal power plants and open gas power plants.
4) Rely intensively on Russian gas for decades
5) Sanction the said country and collapse your industry.
6)….
7) PROFIT
So You Sanction Russia ,and EU with Proudly said Russia would Down… But in Reality European Union under Perish soon… I think this EU leader should be Fire for European Good Life, EU never work for European citizen, only Puppet of US 😭😭😭
You all can thank Biden for the struggles. America affects the world. We don't support him.
Go Gazprom! Any shareholders here?
Should the rest of the countries in the EU freeze for the winter because Germany has put itself in a position where Russia can use gas as a weapon?
People in germany have survived centuries without gas to get warm, I don't understand how is this seen as an apocalyptic scenario.
Watt?? Dear Germanz vit energy problemz?? Vat happent tu der endlez zolar und wint powerr?? Ach so! Dis renewable energy Zource ist not gut?? Wunderbar!! It is der tum fur Germanz to shiverr in der lederhosen!!! Schrrumpfff!!!
Russia go on! Do not give gas to all Europe!
Europe need to wake up from it's slumber!! Go Nuclear … Use Thorium. No CO2, cannot be weaponised and we can recycle the current nuclear waste created by Uranium reactors … problem solved.
Well done Putin's Russia.
Cut all gas from all pipes.
Let the evil empires of lies enjoy the confiscation of russian assets. Let them sell the milk of their women.
I see allot of closed down coal mines and allot of unemployed Africans…. Do we really want to push te Germans back into that corner 🫣
Wow, thank you we din’t know
In 1841, German physician and physicist Julius von Mayer coined what was to become known as a first law of thermodynamics: “Energy can be neither created nor destroyed,” he wrote. It can, however, be converted from one kind to another — by solar panels that turn sunlight to electricity, or in the transformation of natural gas molecules to the heat that cooks our dinner and heats our homes.
“Magnetism is a force, but it has no energy of its own,” says David Cohen-Tanugi, vice president of the MIT Energy Club and a John S. Hennessy Fellow in MIT’s Materials Science and Engineering department. Still, he adds, “magnetism is extremely useful for converting energy from one form to another. About 99% of the power generated from fossil fuels, nuclear and hydroelectric energy, and wind comes from systems that use magnetism in the conversion process.”
Every energy generation technology — with the exception of photovoltaics — relies on spinning turbines that put electrons in motion and push them through circuits and generators. “As these charged particles move past magnets inside the turbines, they create a field around them that affects other charged particles,” says Cohen-Tanugi. “This is the magnetic force that converts the energy of wind and coal and nuclear fuel to the electricity that’s sent out into the power grid.”
Much of that grid is managed by using principles of magnetism, as well. “The transformer stations you see along the highway or in industrial areas are responsible for converting high voltage electricity to a usable 110 volts,” says Cohen-Tanugi. High voltage lines deliver power from the power plant to the transformer stations, and as electrons move through the transformer’s large coils, they give rise to magnetic fields that change the electricity’s frequency to a voltage safe for powering our toasters, bedside lamps, and hair dryers.
Generators and motors in everything from hybrid cars to computer hard drives employ magnets, and researchers are currently investigating the potential of rare earth magnets, exceptionally strong permanent magnets composed of alloys of rare earth elements. Already used in state-of-the-art motors and generators and other energy-sector applications, they represent the next generation in magnetism’s role in energy production.
Poor Europe people living with the foot of USA on their heads and can make their Own decisions. Now the people have to suffer the consequences, not democracy at all!!
LMFAO at ze germans. You vill freez and starve all for the USA imperialist agenda.
I have no problem to "suffer" high energy prices when the alternative is to see Ukrainians suffering x100 and Europe fall into Communistic dictatorship. First choice should be to start up the nuclear power plants again, not buying Russian gas. The lesson learned is that Russians kill more people than nuclear power plants. Europe would have excess energy within a year and Russia would continue its downward spiral into Communistic oppression and economic depression. Slava Ukraini with love from Sweden.
Now what EU , call your buddy great war USA topple some energy rich African or gulf state so that you people can loot their energy, that's what you people do everytime right , remember Gaddafi….
All Nuclear plants need to be kept on and the ones that are not functioning need to be brought back on line urgently. Thanks.
Winter is coming.❄
It’s going to be painful for a bit. Like a detox. We will detox ourselves of Russian influence and gas. In the long term it’s for the best
GOD is angry with europe for helping usa killing too many people everywhere in the world. GOD is now helping china and russia. GOD will help the truth to reveal. Repent, my friend, repent.. Support the truth not the money.. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Millions of Europeans will temporarily or permanently leave northern nations to Italy, southern Hungary, Spain, Portugal and the United States…
Hahaha, Your government created this crisis and provoked the Russians. And you will pay the price for this irresponsibility and the price of following America. The sanctions you imposed on Russia have turned against you
You must hold the politicians in your country accountable before blaming the Russians. Who wanted to expand eastward towards Russia? Who put the Ukrainians in the war and still gives them arms? Only you, the people, will pay the price for America's followers and politicians in your country
Please, don't walk around the world, here you are spreading the stench over the internet, take the american one,yes it is more expensive but you can bathe at least once a week.
Energy transition is doing great Europe 😍
Putin knew all along that energy supplies
were his ace up the sleeve.
Good thing im living in nordic countries
I understand that folks in the EU have the governments they chose, and that politics is downstream from, or the result of culture.
What I don’t understand is just when and how did Europeans become so shortsighted?
Gas is everywhere – you have to
Dig down – its under some layers of earth!!! Also what gas has to do with electricity crises! Please someone explain! Germany and othr countries been saying they are 80-90% self efficient form renewable energy and suddenly now nobody talks about it… all starts smelling here isn’t it?? One could feel its all planned as noone seems to come up with a resonable solution!
