British retailer WH Smith on Thursday said it was investigating a cyber security incident that led to illegal access to some company data, including that of existing and former employees.
The corporate, whose shops are a standard sight at UK airports and train stations, said its website, customer accounts and underlying customer databases are on separate systems and weren’t affected.
“WH Smith takes the difficulty of cyber security extremely seriously and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We’re notifying all affected colleagues and have put measures in place to support them,” the retailer said in a press release.
The incident didn’t impact its trading activities either.
WH Smith will report its results for the half-year period to the top of February on April 20.
The U.K. Royal Mail service and British sports and fashion retailer JD Sports also suffered disruptions consequently of cyber attacks for the reason that start of the yr.
