A 7-year-old ballerina in Virginia is making huge leaps of progress after nearly losing her feet in a freak accident, based on the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke.

After spending the past several months within the hospital, Aubrey Scaletta, 7, was in a position to do the unthinkable and dance in ‘The Nutcracker’ after nearly losing each her feet in a freak accident back in May, based on Carilion Clinic.

In a release, Carilion Clinic said Aubrey was on her way home from gymnastics along with her dad and twin sister, Grayson, when the unimaginable happened.

Health officials said Scaletta was fidgeting with a ratchet strap when a portion of the strap went out the window and wrapped across the drive shaft.

She was then almost pulled out the window, but as a substitute, the strap severed her feet.

Aubrey was airlifted to the pediatric level one trauma center at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where an orthopedic surgeon and his team acted swiftly.

“After I got the phone call about an hour after the accident, they thought they may need to transfer her out of town, and I said, ‘Hold on a minute. If her feet are salvageable, then her best probability is here with us tonight — not tomorrow, not in six hours, but right here, immediately with us,’” Dr. Peter Apel said within the clinic release.

“We needed to operate quickly to re-establish blood flow and reattach her feet to her legs. If we might have waited even a couple of hours, the feet would have died and most actually would have been amputated.”

Due to Dr. Apel and his team’s swift pondering, they were able to save lots of Aubrey’s feet.

The team performed complex emergency surgery to repair and reattach the bones, arteries, tendons, nerves, and skin, typically a process that will have taken every week of planning with the assistance of several doctors and surgical team members, based on officials.

“It appears like it was all a foul dream,” said Lauren Scaletta, Aubrey’s mom.

“Even now, it still doesn’t feel prefer it really happened,” said Lauren Scaletta, Aubrey’s mom.

“I remember right after she got out of the hospital, I used to be running an errand and I saw a little bit girl in a dance leotard along with her mom, and it struck me that we’d never give you the chance to do things like that again. So just being here and watching her do the things she loves makes me consistently say, ‘She’s incredible.’”

The weekend of Dec. 9, Aubrey was in a position to perform alongside Grayson in “The Nutcracker.”

Dr. Apel stated that Aubrey’s recovery isn’t over, but she’s making great progress.

Nevertheless, Aubrey’s parents don’t expect anything to slow her down, adding she at all times finds a solution to achieve every thing she sets her mind to.
