Napoleon claimed he was a “dead man” and that his time of greatness had passed. But in reality, he was biding his time. Ruling Elba gave him an excuse to build a military force: an army of 2,000, a 600-man Imperial Guard, and a small navy. Napoleon’s frequent communications with France and his continual stream of visitors concerned the British. But until February 26, 1815, they didn’t realize how dangerous those communications had been.

"as harsh as the truth, and as uncompromising as justice" (William Lloyd Garrison). We need to be working to protect our Democracy, not worrying about how criminals might retaliate. Ford's most meaningful legacy was certainly the pardoning of Nixon, and this single act proved him to be a bad leader and a coward, just like Nixon was. If he were so sure of Nixon's innocence, then why did he not show the evidence of it. Only an admitted criminal is a candidate for a pardon. The 'feelings' of such a dull witted character as Ford were poor foder for leading the country and establishing and operationalizing its values. Ford made Nixon more important than the Rule of Law with his pardon and has been, with little doubt, a meaningful steppingstone on the path to Trump and beyond. Also, he clearly benefited from the decision by becoming the only president who was never elected, regardless of his 'intent' and words about this. Ford and his legacy have been far more damaging to Democracy than Nixon and his administration ever were, and the same will be true of Biden and Garland's DOJ if they fail to act on the evidence against Trump and his minions. Just like Nixon destroyed the gold standard for the monetary system, started whole 'war on drugs' fiasco, and showed how vulnerable we, as a country, are to 'rats in the corn', Biden and Garland stand at the cusp of determining whether we can 'keep our republic' or whether we descend into another ever worsen cycle of fascist authoritarianism created by the self-serving few and supported by the irrational, the unconscious, and the outright stupid among us. Ideas like Justice (The Rule of Law) are not tokens we use to negotiate or barter peace with criminals; they are the fundamental linchpins that define and cohere our culture, our sine qua non, and the choice is not whether to stand for the Rule of Law or not, but rather to be or not to be.

The government has an undisputed monopoly on the legal use of violence, as well as ample means to implement it. They should be prepared to use it if/when/where it becomes necessary. Fear of what criminals may do can never influence the Rule of Law in a viable Democracy. "Government can easily exist without laws, but laws cannot exist without government." —Bertrand Russell

Republicans, establishment politicians, and Americans must decide if greed, power, & racism is worth what is next from the monsters that they have created.

  37. Teetitria Scott says:

Trump supporters & the powers that be in USA government that are complicit will destroy us all. Corporations must choose too. They can end it all. Stop backing Republicans all together until USA stabilizes. Establishment Democrats will always keep their greed. They are the lesser of pure evil.

  38. Teetitria Scott says:
