Taiwan’s military held a live-fire artillery drill Tuesday simulating a defence of the island against an attack after days of massive Chinese war games, an AFP journalist at the site of the exercise said.Lou Woei-jye, spokesman for Taiwan’s Eighth Army Corps, confirmed the drills started in the southern county of Pingtung shortly after 0040 GMT with the firing of target flares and artillery, ending within an hour at 0130 GMT.
As the last round of cannon was fired, Taiwanese soldiers were heard shouting “mission accomplished”.

Its a tragedy but the Taiwanese regime is making a big mistake. It seems that they have swallowed Pelosi's line about America backing them up. It is very unlikely for many reasons that America will engage China militarily, (even if they did it would not useless, ………but the more important point is they most likely won't).
Looking at US media coverage after the drills by PLA there is very little serious coverage of this issue. They've moved on almost immediately to other stories. Other than the few armchair generals of Fox News, no one is bothered about it. Taiwanese senior officials are not being interviewed. For that matter, not even Taiwanese military analysts are being consulted. The Japanese will most likely not intervene either, as they will keep their eyes on the DPRK and as for the south Koreans, the very fact that their leader would not even meet with Pelosi in person, and spoke to her by phone, being in the same city, tells you everything you need to know about where they stand on angering China. Coming back to the US media, their lack of coverage, should give an insight into how serious (i.e. the lack thereof) this matter is for the US administration. Taiwan will largely be on their own and not talking about a skirmish, but if a full blown war took place it would be catastrophic for Taiwan. They should engage with China rather than go down the road they seem to be going.
