It’s projected to enjoy a $368 million opener, which might make it the largest ever for an animated film, surpassing “Frozen,” in line with Deadline.
The beloved Italian-American brothers from the series, Mario and Luigi, are voiced by Chris Pratt and Charlie Day.
The remaining of its star-studded ensemble includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen and Sebastian Maniscalco.
The sports drama “Air,” which chronicles the story of Michael Jordan’s sneaker line, landed in second, with just over $5 million in sales.
The Post called the movie, which stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, “a slam dunk.”
“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves,” which was in first place last week, flew right down to third, with a $4.84-million take.
“John Wick: Chapter 4,” which was in second last week, got here in fourth, earning $4.8 million.
In fifth was the slasher horror “Scream VI,” with $1.255 in sales.
