Sri Lanka’s unpopular prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected president Wednesday, in a secret parliamentary ballot that risked reigniting turmoil among a public outraged by the South Asian nation’s economic collapse.

Sri Lankans have taken to the street for months to demand their president and his prime minister step down as the country spiralled into economic chaos that left its 22 million people struggling with shortages of essentials, including medicine, fuel and food.

After they stormed the presidential palace and several other government buildings last week, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled and then resigned.

Much of the protesters’ ire is focused on Rajapaksa and his family’s political dynasty, which ruled Sri Lanka for most of the past two decades, but many also blame Wickremesinghe, a six-time prime minister, for protecting him and see him as a part of the same problematic rule.

“We won’t back down, we won’t let this be, we won’t settle for any less,” 26-year-old activist and mental health counsellor Kasumi Ranasinghe Arachchige said. “The people deserve to get their basic necessities — they deserve fuel, they deserve transportation, they deserve anything that the citizens of Sri Lanka need.”

New PM Ranil is a Rajapaksha puppet, came to power using Rajapaksha party MP votes at Parliament, not from people's vote. he is not respecting to basic human rights or low and order. They are using SL army and police teams who are close to Rajapaksha clan to harm and threatened innocent 🇱🇰civilians, journalists and protesters who asking for resignation of corrupt politicians and election to vote for people's government

Sri lankan parliamentary majority is with Rajapaksha's regime always so the reality is that corrupt regime still governs the nation with their intentions by appointing their henchmen to power, as in president ranil (close relative & associate of rajapaksha) and prime minister dinesh and the cabinet ministers to conduct corrupt Rajapaksha schemes.

On May 9th the then prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksha attacked the peaceful protesters but unexpectedly the protesters counter attacked the mob and gathered in numbers, as a result mahinda rajapaksha had to go into hiding in a army base far from colombo. Soon after he resigned.
Since this situation occurred, Gotabaya Rajapaksha (mahinda's brother, who was also the president then) tactfully withdrew himself evading the nation and appointed his henchmen Ranil wikramasinghe as president who is their close associate and confederate. This crafty appointment was done not with any transparency or respecting the constitution.

Now the Rajapaksha's are conducting their vengeful strategy from afar and attacking people, controlling the public and harming democracy as usual to create an opportunity for them to be reentered.
These are the corrupt politicians who have for years ruined our economy, culture, wealth, heritage and democracy.

Ranil-Gota-Mahinda-Basil-Namal-Pohottu Rajapaksha regime's schemes & agenda's are together at work now to stop people from protesting.

Sri lanka is doomed by Ranil & the Rajapaksha family's corruption and no democracy may prevail anymore. Even earlier as now Troops deployed to attack the nation's peaceful protesters. We need support to fight this injustice!

Country's inflation hits hard on all citizens, people die of hunger, people spend their majority of time by spending days on petrol queues, gas queues, to get essentials such as milk in queues. Limited food at very high cost, sky rocketing prices of essentials and utility costs.
Most people have collapsed and died on such queues while waiting on queues for days, due to hunger and due to heatstroke.
These Rajapaksha team of culprit government officials including close ally Ranil created this unfortunate situation to all sri lankans.

New government being appointed is just a big lie, its still the same Rajapaksha government with their governing majority always at power.
Only difference being the Rajapaksha's are now pulling strings, conducting their corrupt intent strategically rather than being upfront so as to avoid attention getting onto Rajapaksha's.

We need international support to counter these corrupt rulers, in order to secure a safe and normal sri lanka as it was years before Rajapaksha's came or else atleast please Pray for our nation, thank you..
