Josh is absolutely right. NATO has caused more trouble than it's worth. In the late 80's, James Baker, Secretary of State for George Bush senior promised Mikhail Gorbachev that NATO would not expand into Central and Eastern Europe. Well according to declassified papers that are displayed to the public, James Baker gave a verbal commitment. Sadly that was not followed and now we have this so called security pact that started to expand simply for defense contractors to make money. It's sickening that our polarized left versus right view of politics blinds us to the real problem, run away military spending that is draining the life out of our country. But if it makes you feel good that American defense contractors are running our military based on a profit motive, God bless you!

I wonder if Senator Hawley would be willing to serve his country in the armed forces and defend his country against a military invasion.
Finland has the highest percentage of population (of western countries) willing to defend their country against a military invasion, even against overwhelming odds, and even when a positive outcome is not likely. 80 percent of adult males have served in the armed forces at some point. Regardless of their political views, or their parents' wealth.
As Nato countries, Finland and Sweden will be much more likely to solve problems than cause problems. Both political and military. They also have a strong democracy and well functioning civil society and high respect for human rights. Those are core values of Nato.

There was the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (1964) with only TWO (2) Senators voting against it Senator Wayne Morse and Senator Gruening of Alaska. In the House of Rep. all the sheep voted for it. Do your homework people! Finland & Sweden took the fetal position in both European theater world wars while 370,000 Americans died plus hundreds of thousands wounded. All for pick 'n' choose cowards who also sided with and bolstered the Nazis with various special interests. When Russia was warm and doing business, Finland and Sweden gave NATO the 🐦 for decades. Self serving pick n choose parasites.
