Dinelson Lamet’s time with the Red Sox looks prefer it’ll be incredibly short.
Two days after he was added to the team’s lively roster, Lamet was designated for project on Wednesday during a slew of roster moves, in accordance with the Boston Globe.
Boston also activated righty Kyle Barraclough and recalled left-hander Brandon Walter from Triple-A Worcester, while righty Nick Robertson was sent to Triple-A.
Lamet had a rough Tuesday night in his lone appearance with the Red Sox when he gave up three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out only one batter in two innings against the Royals.
He also uncorked a wild pitch.
The best-hander has struggled this season in 17 appearances — 16 of which got here with the Rockies before his release from Colorado.
Lamet now owns an unsightly 11.71 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 23 walks across 27 2/3 innings in 2023.
Lamet also spent his first 4 and a half years within the majors with the Padres and was a Cy Young candidate in the course of the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
He had the seventh-most strikeouts (93) and the fifth-lowest ERA (2.09) that season with the Padres, ending fourth within the National League Cy Young voting.
Things haven’t gone as easily since that peak as Lamet has handled several injury issues, which include a biceps strain, a UCL sprain, forearm inflammation and a hip injury.
The Red Sox struggled so as to add much pitching help before the trade deadline and have turned to their Triple-A affiliate for help to get them through the remaining of the season.
They did add Robertson, whom they picked up in a July 25 trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He allowed three runs in three innings against Kansas City on Tuesday before getting sent to Worcester.
Boston went into Wednesday’s game against Kansas City 5.0 games back of the ultimate wild-card spot within the American League.
