That the Catholic Church is firmly against abortion shouldn’t be news to anyone. Nonetheless, what Catholics within the pews think and feel in regards to the issue shouldn’t be as clear—and we don’t ever discuss it.
On this special episode of Jesuitical, we try to alter that. On this show, you’ll hear from three guests on just a few topics related to abortion. First, Tricia Bruce, a sociologist affiliated with Notre Dame who authored a landmark study about how Americans (including Catholics) understand the abortion issue. Next, Rachel Lu, an ethical philosopher and contributing author for America, who believes that the subsequent focus point after Roe v. Wade can be about motherhood and honor. Finally, you’ll hear an excerpt from a conversation we had last 12 months with Caitlin Flanagan, who considers herself a pro-choice Catholic but still grapples with either side of the difficulty.
