It’s a wonder how anyone forgot these unforgettable items.
Train operators revealed the weirdest items lost on trains, including a prosthetic leg, a live hamster, and 22 lbs. of chicken breasts.
Northern Trains, a British train company that runs 2,500 services a day across the north of England, has recorded greater than 32,690 cases of lost property since July 2022, with Manchester Piccadilly and Leeds being the hotspots.
“When a passenger comes forward to report lost property our staff work hard to trace down that item and reunite them – but it surely’s no mean feat,” Northern’s business and customer director Alex Hornby said.
Customers have reported leaving their bikes on departed trains or asking for help finding a plain white handkerchief.
“We understand that losing something may be extremely stressful so we regularly remind customers to ensure that they’ve all of their personal belongings before leaving the train,” Hornby added.
Employers admitted that the items mostly lost were phones and laptops, but among the oddest finds were a cabinet, a wig, crutches, an ironing board, and a 22-pound box of chicken breasts.
Although the team doesn’t mind connecting the forgotten items to their owners, left behind items set off an alarm for security risks.
“Unattended bags on our trains and at our stations may also prompt security alerts which cause delays and disruption,” Hornby said.
Recent Yorkers are also known to go away quirky items on trains during their commute from Penn Station to Montauk.
Previously reported by The Post, LIRR officials unveiled the weird items found contained in the Long Island trains including a violin, a karaoke machine and an engagement ring.
Unclaimed items eventually get sold off to an outdoor vendor, however the railroad keeps them from anywhere between three months and five years, depending on their value.
