
If one thing is evident, it’s that Caitlin Clark doesn’t just like the drama round her and fellow WNBA star Angel Reese.
When Clark was asked concerning the flagrant foul she committed against Reese throughout the Fever’s 93-58 blowout win over the Sky in Saturday’s season-opener, the 23-year-old insisted that it was a sensible play.
“Let’s not make it something that it’s not,” Clark said after posting the third triple-double of her profession. “It was just a great play on the basketball. I’m unsure what the ref saw to upgrade it, and that’s as much as their discretion. It’s a take foul to place them on the free-throw line. I’ve watched lots of basketball in my life, that’s exactly what it was. I wasn’t attempting to do anything malicious. That’s not the sort of player I’m.”
Reese said it was simply a “basketball play” when asked about it after the sport.
Clark committed the foul throughout the third quarter, shoving Reese to the ground under the basket to forestall her from taking a shot.
After review, Clark was hit with a flagrant 1, with each her and Reese being issued technicals because the two needed to be separated by players from each team.
Clark finished the sport with a 20-points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists because the Fever won in a blowout. Reese had a powerful night, too, scoring 12 points to associate with 17 rebounds.
Clark’s performance even grabbed the eye of LeBron James.
“TRIPLE DUB CC!! Great technique to kick off the season!” James posted on X.
Earlier this week, Clark opened as much as ESPN about how she feels more adjusted to the WNBA in her second season in comparison with last 12 months’s opener when she was a rookie coming off an extended season on the University of Iowa.
“Truthfully, I don’t even really remember last 12 months’s [opener],” Clark told ESPN this week. “Possibly that’s a great thing. I feel [this year] it’s just going on the market and having fun and being confident. I’ve been on this league for a 12 months now. I do know I belong. I do know I can perform, and I could make my teammates higher each night. And that’s my job.
“Not every thing’s going to be perfect. Give yourself grace. There’s going to be really good moments. There’s going to be moments where you struggle. So just attempting to stay as neutral as I can and stay positive. But … I’ve been in these moments before, and I’m ready for them.”
