The Nets snapped their longest losing skid of the season with a slump-busting wire-to-wire 103-84 win against the shorthanded Hornets in Charlotte, N.C.
The Nets got here in having dropped seven straight before defensively smothering the life out of the Hornets, leading by as many as 24 points and never trailing in the sport.
The Nets (15-33) are only 2-12 since Jan. 4 — with each of their wins coming against fellow lottery hopefuls — and remain fifth within the lottery-odds standings.

They fell a game behind fourth-place Charlotte, while their other victory got here Jan. 14 at Portland, with the Trail Blazers currently in seventh.
Center Nic Claxton led a dominant defensive effort.
He had 12 points, eight rebounds and 6 blocks, one shy of his profession high.
Keon Johnson had a team-high 18 points, including an alley-oop from Ben Simmons.

The Nets allowed just 33.7 percent shooting, and 10-for-35 from deep. The Hornets were without seven of their top eight scorers, including star guard LaMelo Ball (ankle injury). However the Nets likely won’t care.
Miles Bridges — the one Hornet averaging over six points that played — ended up with 23 points. The Nets cruised from start to complete.
The one negative was Day’Ron Sharpe being forced out of the sport with left hamstring tightness after notching five points and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes.
He had missed the primary six weeks of the season with a left hamstring strain, leaving Claxton because the only center left on Brooklyn’s roster.
Trendon Watford returned to the court for the primary time since Dec. 16. He finished with nine points in 18 minutes.
The 83 points conceded and 33.7 percent shooting allowed are each the perfect of the season for Brooklyn.
