Opening remarks by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a joint meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence followed by an exchange of views with Members of the European Parliament, 13 July 2022.

Speaking with members of the EU parliament on 13 July 2022, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg described the NATO Summit in Madrid as “historic and transformative”. The Secretary General was attending a joint meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence for discussions on the NATO Summit decisions and on cooperation between NATO and the European Union. He said that Ukraine can count on NATO’s support, for “as long as it takes”, because a strong, independent Ukraine is vital for the security of the Euro-Atlantic area and for global stability.

Mr. Stoltenberg said that at the Summit Allies decided the “biggest overhaul in our deterrence and defence since the Cold War” to adapt to a new security reality. The Alliance will strengthen forward defences, enhance battlegroups in the eastern part of the Alliance, increase the number of high readiness forces to over 300,000 and pre-position equipment and stockpiles of military supplies.

Speaking about Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership application, he said that it is good for Finland, for Sweden, for NATO, for stability throughout the Euro Atlantic area “and it also demonstrates that NATO’s door is open”. The Secretary General highlighted that in Madrid NATO leaders endorsed a new Strategic Concept. He said that NATO’s Strategic Concept and the EU’s Strategic Compass are different documents, but they “reflect the same reality” in a more dangerous, competitive and unpredictable world.

It is not that the weapons make a different in Ukraine, it does but they need more and more heavy artillery. It means that NATO need to step up and his answer of he will follow up that is not good enough. Ukraine need it and need it yesterday. This is about NATO to be more for Ukraine and less about NATO. I understand NATO is important but the weapons going into Ukraine is to slow. This war in Ukraine is a war for all and they need to support a country that fight for their life's. Was J Stoltenberg in Ukraine???? did he see the destruction of Ukraine. If the focus is for Ukraine so let we see that because the Ukrainian people is fighting for all. Mr. C Mavrides questions was very interesting. Substantial support what does that mean because Ukraine need more and urgent so we is the substantial support from NATO. US, UK and Poland and other give substantial support but still not all Ukraine need and the other NATO countries like Germany need to step up. NATO need to step up and not keep on saying Ukraine must be help so let the weapons go in and fast. Last words of Mr. J Stoltenberg is straight and true and support that. Greetings from South Africa

1:15:50 Best and most important Part!
China is watching and if Russia wins the war, they might think that they can also win an invasion of Taiwan. Now it is veyr important that democratic countries stands up for each other. We must show the authoritarian leaders that an attack on a smaller democratic country is an attack on the values of the whole democratic world.

We must give Russia and dictatorships a lesson, whatever it may cost us.

It's ultimately the war between democracy vs communism. Democracy will eventually prevail n stand strong. Communism is doomed to fail n crush n turn democratic once n for good n more.
