Once part of the USSR, Latvia is now an independent country in the European Union, whose government has expressed staunch support for Ukraine.
But its close cultural ties to Russia is causing concern for the Latvian government – more than a quarter of Latvia’s population identifies as Russian.

I think most reasonable people can agree that sending someone death threats when you disagree with them is an gross overstep, though sadly all too common in discourse these days. That being said, that young Russian Latvian guy demonstrated a breath-taking lack of sense waving the Russian flag around given the context. I actually feel very worried about Russians living outside of the country and how the public/media/governments of those places are treating them, but insisting upon respect for one's culture ought to be reciprocal. Maybe don't display a jingoistic zeal for your nation when you live somewhere that's credibly terrified of being overrun by that nation.
