US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent a direct message to China during her trip to Taiwan. Speaking at an event after she was conferred the Order of Propitious Clouds with special grant cordon, Pelosi said that the US will not abandon its commitment it made to the island nation. In a dig at China, Pelosi said that the world is facing a battle between autocratic and democratic forces and added that the US’ determination to preserve democracy in Taiwan remains iron-clad. Pelosi visited the island nation despite a string of increasingly stark warnings and threats from China, which views Taiwan as its territory and had warned it would consider her visit a major provocation.

I'm not a huge fan of Pelosi. But I dig this message. We should stand with Taiwan because they are even better at Democracy than we are. The CCP claims on Taiwan are absolutely ludicrous. "Re-Unification"? When were the 2 nations ever united? The CCP failed to capture the territory in 1949. They failed to even TRY to capture it. There has been no agreement between the two governments, no treaties, no shared anything since then. The CCP is not the Qing dynasty. They are not the great Ming or Yuan. They are who they are and they are not Taiwan. The UK has more of a claim on the 13 colonies in the US than the CCP has to Taiwan. At least they tried to invade and spent some blood and treasure to obtain it. China has nothing but bluster and hot air invested into Taiwan. But should they take it they will have stolen the blood sweat and labour of a people who have built one of the worlds leading tech industries on the planet. Just as they have done to Hong Kong.
