An Aussie mom has sparked a discussion about the associated fee of youngsters’ haircuts in these crazy cost-of-living times.
Creator @itsjustmilliee posted a clip on TikTok, wanting to know if the staggering amount she just paid for her toddler son’s haircut, and little girl’s fringe trim, was “standard”.
Spoiler alert: it’s not.
“My husband pays $30 for his haircut”
The mom begins in her clip:
“I just got my son’s hair cut and my daughter’s fringe trimmed. It cost me $120 [$77.02 USD].”
Reasonably, she adds, “I’m completely satisfied to pay if that’s what everyone’s paying. It’s not something I could do myself. I’m completely satisfied to pay knowledgeable, but I feel like that’s loads for a brief back and sides and fringe trim.
“Is that standard?”
She then shares a shot of the back of her son’s head, declaring a few places where the cut shouldn’t be exactly what she wanted.
“It doesn’t matter, it’s just hair. I used to be just curious to know what everyone else is paying. So in the event you could please drop a comment, that will be appreciated.”
The clip was captioned: “I didn’t query it because in comparison with the value of my hair appointments I believed it was okay … then I got home and my husband told me he pays $30 [$19.25 USD] for his hair.”

The comments on the mom’s post were generally helpful and supportive in sharing of experiences… of paying significantly less.
These viewers said:
“My husband pays around $40 [$25.67 USD] & we paid around $40 [$25.67 USD] for my daughters full wash, trim & style.”
“I lost my mind when [our local] wanted $32 [$20.54 USD] each for two girls “trims” (they’re 4 and a couple of for reference).”

For comparison’s sake, I pay $45 [$28.88 USD] at a barber for my 18 yr old son, and $50 [$32.09 USD] at a tremendous hairdresser for myself in Chinatown.
There was also one comment on the post that unkindly read, “Hairdressers reside in fantasy land. It’s not rocket science.”
Finally, this viewer made a practical suggestion:
“$35 [$22.46 USD] in Mudgee. He has similar hair length to your son’s.
“I don’t even pay $120 [$77.02 USD] to get my hair cut. I could be going back and questioning it. Possibly they charged you the mistaken price by accident??”
The creator agreed, saying, “That is an excellent idea! Based on everyone’s comments I believe it will need to have been a mistake – I’ll call up tomorrow and ask.”
