A mom has been dragged online after sharing her ‘parenting hack’, where she lets her daughter select whatever she wants after they buy groceries, then makes her select just a number of items to really buy after they’re on the money register.
The shop’s employees then need to return all of the unwanted items that her child has discarded, something the mom believes is “their job.”
Mom shares controversial parenting ‘hack’
The clip has since been deleted, but it was reposted by one other TikTok user, @unpluggedmoments, who didn’t hesitate to share her own thoughts on the controversial parenting tip.
“Apparently, she lets her daughter go into the shop and select whatever she wants, but then when she gets to the money register, she picks a pair of things that they may buy and asks the worker to place the items back for her,” she explains, sharing screenshots of the unique clip.
“So she got a variety of heat about it, because people were like ‘girl you’re not putting those items back,’” she continued.
The unique mom then apparently made a follow-up post after the backlash defending herself, but she did herself no favors and maybe only dug herself further right into a hole.

“I don’t understand the world today, where people just think that they’re entitled to simply stand around at their jobs,” she ranted.
“I ask an worker like, hey, I don’t have time to place all this stuff back are you willing to assist me out, they’re normally so nice and say yes, after all I’ll assist you to.”
“But two, that can be their job. They’re not there to simply stand around. Their job is to assist the shopper in the shop.”
But @unpluggedmoments told the mom to “have more respect for them.”
She compared it to “going to a restaurant, sitting down and unraveling all of the table settings, all of the silverware that somebody has wrapped up and, then go, oh, modified my mind.”

‘Entitled,’ commenters say
It’s unclear why the mom lets her daughter do that practice, but commenters had their theories.
“It’s not a life hack. She’s just wasting people’s time. It’s also only a horrible method to teach your child about budgeting and managing their expectations while shopping,” said one.
“Yeah, who even shops like that as an adult? It’s not like she’s setting her daughter up for the long run,” one other identified.
“She is certainly the girl who leaves a whole bunch of outfits within the dressing rooms for me to place back,” said one.
“Sure it’s their job to assist out customers, however the mom is so entitled for adding to their workload,” one other replied.
“They DO NOT have time to wash up after your kid,” reprimanded another person.
