Michigan State Police shot and killed a person who pointed a laser and fired a rifle at a police helicopter on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. when the helicopter circled across the north of downtown Detroit, based on police.
The 33-year-old man, whose name has not been released, had been staying within the abandoned home on the time of the shooting.
Two state troopers shot and killed the suspect, who recently moved into the house, based on a neighbor moments later.
Within the video, the person emerged from the second-story window and pointed a green laser on the aircraft.
“We got any individual hitting us with a green laser on the rear of the home, upper window,” the helicopter pilot said.
Moments later, the person exited the home and aimed a “long gun” toward the hovering helicopter before opening fire.
“Now there’s any individual standing on the back door. Without delay, they’re within the backyard,” the pilot said. “He actually might, he may be armed. He almost looks like he’s holding a protracted gun pointed at us at once. Yeah, he’s shooting at us at once. He’s firing rounds. He’s got a protracted gun, prolonged magazine.”
Police recovered five firearms on the abandoned home, including the one the suspect had used to fireside on the aircraft.
“They found multiple weapons and ammunition stashes throughout the house as if it were arrange for some form of ambush or security purposes or whatever,” Lt. Mike Shaw said based on Fox 2 Detroit.
The helicopter didn’t suffer any damage from the shooting.
The 2 state troopers who killed the shooter are only being identified as a two-year veteran and a nine-year veteran of the Michigan state police.
They’re each on leave pending the final result of the investigation.
