In the course of September during a playoff chase, the Mets have lost a reliever who had been struggling but has been among the many team’s best for 2 seasons.
Reed Garrett was placed on the injured list again Thursday with an elbow sprain that knocks him out for not less than the remaining of the regular season.
The severity of the sprain was not immediately known.

Notably he was knocked around last Thursday in Philadelphia, where he allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Before ending a series against the Padres at Citi Field, the Mets called up righties Huascar Brazoban, Wander Suero and Chris Devenski.
Sean Manaea was placed on the paternity list and Dom Hamel, who debuted Wednesday, was designated for project.
