NBC News’ Lester Holt interviews the parents of Austin Tice, the American freelance journalist and Marine veteran who went missing in Syria. Tice was detained at a checkpoint near Damascus in August 2012 and a month after a video of him apparently captured was posted. That was the last time Tice was seen. Debra and Marc Tice speak on their continued hope and action to find their son.

To think you're going over there to take pictures or to tell the stories of what's going on is naive. You take a risk when traveling to those remote areas. I hope he makes it home. Unknown the circumstances up until this point except that video said Austin Tice is in Syria alive and President Biden is aware since 3 months and Mr. Tice has been there 10 years. Any U.S. Ambassador or the specific Embassy, Syria this time, may coordinate almost any action necessary for the release of U.S. citizens into U.S. custody within reason however final decisions are withheld by the authority they represent by policy but some areas tensions are higher resulting in ineffective diplomacy at present yet diplomacy is welcomed in far more places than not.
