A girl walking her dog in Los Angeles was stabbed with a samurai sword and her pet was killed in a seemingly unprovoked attack, police and witnesses said.

A suspect within the stabbing, identified as 23-year-old Eric Herrera, was arrested on the scene within the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Police said they received multiple 911 calls at around 11:20 p.m. reporting an assault with a deadly weapon within the 1200 block of South Victoria Avenue.

Officers who responded to the scene saw the 23-year-old suspect walking in the midst of the road holding a sword.

In keeping with police, the officers attempted to “de-escalate” the situation and ordered Herrera to place the sword down, however the man allegedly refused to cooperate and approached them with the blade in hand.

The cops responded by utilizing a Taser on Herrera, after which he was taken into custody without incident, as seen in a news video showing the suspect sitting handcuffed on the bottom.

In keeping with the LAPD’s statement, the 43-year-old dog owner was found nearby affected by multiple cuts to her arm from Herrera’s sword. Officers applied a tourniquet on the scene to stop the bleeding before the girl was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
