Kevin Durant isn’t a fan of Emmanuel Acho’s “legacy formula.”
The FS1 analyst and former Eagles linebacker crafted his own formula Monday to find out NBA players’ legacies — and the system didn’t particularly favor Durant on Tuesday.
“In accordance with The Great Kevin Durant’s legacy formula that was created in the perfect labs at MIT, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time,” Durant feistily responded to Acho on X. “You sure you wanna take heed to this guy about greatness?”
Acho’s legacy formula is just a player’s championships won divided by the variety of teams they played for of their profession — yielding scores that value players who stuck things out with fewer teams and brought them to glory somewhat than often jumping ship throughout their careers.
“What number of championships did you win and what number of teams did you might have to play for to do it?” Acho said. “That’s your legacy.”
The idea of the segment on FS1’s “The Facility” was arguing whether or not Durant’s legacy is hurting after he was just traded, joining his fifth different team in his 17-year profession.
Durant’s rating by Acho’s formula was 0.4, far lower than among the other names Acho compared him to, resembling Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki and LeBron James.
Duncan and Bryant scored 5.0’s as they each played for only one team while winning five rings of their careers, Curry scored a 4.0, James a 1.3 and Nowitzki a 1.0.
Durant won two championships with the Warriors but has now been with the Thunder, Warriors, Nets, Suns and Rockets — tilting Acho’s formula heavily against him.
Despite his low rating by Acho’s standards, the 36-year-old Durant does have quite the legacy as a daily season MVP, two-time Finals MVP, 15-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA selection and a four-time scoring champ.
But Acho argues that the more he chases latest cities and latest teams, the more severe his profession will likely be looked back upon.
“The more you travel, the more you water down your legacy,” Acho added. “Jokic ain’t moving around. Giannis ain’t moving around. Steph ain’t moving around.”
As for Durant’s fiery rebuttal about Acho being the “worst linebacker of all time,” Acho spent just two seasons within the NFL and played in 20 games — starting in two.
