Jared Goff said his phone was ringing off the hook after Taylor Swift mentioned the Lions quarterback during her internet-breaking appearance on the “Recent Heights” podcast Wednesday.
Swift, 35, mentioned Goff and Bills quarterback Josh Allen while explaining that she had little knowledge about football until she got along with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in 2023.
After that, Goff, who looked down at his phone, said he went through “a crazy couple hours.”
“It’s pretty crazy, huh?” he said, smiling. “Very cool, I suppose. That was a crazy couple hours for me and my phone. I used to be like, ‘Oh, okay,’ but yeah kinda cool.”
Swift, who revealed her latest album, “The Lifetime of a Showgirl,” will drop Oct. 3, said she wasn’t super accustomed to the game until Kelce, 35, got here into her life.
“I assumed everyone was there [on the field] at the identical time,” Swift said. “… I assumed it was like, Jared Goff is here and Josh Allen is here and [the referee] is gonna blow a whistle after which they go at one another, and it’s like, who’s gonna win?”
Retired Eagles legend Jason Kelce, who co-hosts the “Recent Heights” podcast alongside his younger brother, chimed in.
“Listen, I might like to see Jared Goff play some defense. Let’s see Jared Goff on defense,” Jason, 37, said, laughing.
Swift caught on quickly, saying she’s “obsessed” with the game.
“I didn’t know what a primary down was, I didn’t know what the chains were, I didn’t know what a decent end was,” she said. “I fell in love with it. I became obsessive about it.”
Swift added that she has great respect for NFL players and the pressure they endure in the game.
The 14-time Grammy winner also called out male sports fans for complaining she’s given an excessive amount of TV time during Chiefs games.
Swift attended her first Chiefs game in September 2023 and has supported Kansas City at home and on the road the past two seasons.
Kelce, now entering his thirteenth season with the Chiefs, will travel to Brazil for the team’s season opener against the Chargers on Sept. 5.
The Chiefs will host the Lions and Goff, 30, on “Sunday Night Football” weeks in a while Oct. 12.
