It didn’t take the Islanders long to reshuffle their goaltending staff.
At some point after director of goaltending Mitch Korn left the organization to hitch the Predators, the Islanders announced that AHL Bridgeport goaltending coach Chris Terreri will transition to director of goaltending and scouting.
The Islanders also hired Sergei Naumovs to switch Terreri as goaltending coach for the AHL club and said Piero Greco will remain goalie coach for the NHL team.
Terreri, who has a history with Lou Lamoriello dating back to the early Eighties when Lamoriello coached him at Windfall College, has been with the organization since 2017-18.
Prior to that, he worked for the Devils and their AHL affiliates in Lowell and Albany dating back to 2001.
The hire of Naumovs, who previously worked within the KHL, will give Ilya Sorokin a well-known face within the organization following his worst season since coming over from Russia.
Naumovs was Sorokin’s goalie coach during his last two seasons at CSKA Moscow from 2018-20, when Sorokin had his best two seasons within the KHL.
He also worked for the Russian Olympic team in 2022 and had stints coaching in Ukraine and Latvia prior to working within the KHL.
After ending second within the Vezina voting last season, Sorokin, 28, had a 3.01 goals-against average and .908 save percentage this season and commenced just considered one of the Islanders’ five playoff games in the primary round against the Hurricanes, getting pulled within the third period of their Game 3 loss after allowing three goals on 14 shots.
