As WNBA star Brittney Griner heads into her sixth month of detainment in Russia, supporters are voicing increased concern that the United States and NBA have not done enough to bring her home. Some have questioned whether there would have been more effort to free her if she was a male professional athlete. But Shira Springer, journalist and lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management, and Peter Roby, former athletic director for Northeastern University, told Adam Reilly that the situation is not quite so simple.

She smuggled drugs, committed a crime, pledged guilty.
Man´s sport´s revenue is way bigger than women´s sports, therefore by equality of opportunities, not equality of outcome is perfectly okay.
This has nothing, nothing to do with the war.
She is not above any countries law because she is black, gay or woman.
She trash talked about the United States, she had the privilege of playing basketball making millions.
She had the option to go to Russia to make more money but she committed a crime by smuggling drugs, she knew it, she had been traveling to play in Russia for years.
Why the U.S. should do something more for any other individual regardless his or her gender or race, the U.S. should do something for the marines and army soldiers captured wrongfully for real.

One's celebrity and status should not exempt them from the consequences of laws. She willfully imported an illegal substance into a foreign country. If she did indeed had a prescription, she should have sorted that out before entry. She's an adult and should know better. Take responsibility and do the time.

Your American rights do not travel with you outside of America . You have to follow other countries laws.

  6. Brandie Armijo says:

I think even having her name in the news is too much. She not coming back. She's a Russian problem.

  7. Remorselesscuckslayer 2 says:

No and why should they ? You can't exchange her for any top Russian spy in a US Prison. This idea she is so special is ridiculous. She broke Russian law and they are not playing over there so enough with this Woke BS.

  8. Remorselesscuckslayer 2 says:

Notice how these woke idiots do not hold her accountable?

  9. Floppy Shoes says:

Seriously? We are giving weapons which are killing hundreds of Russians.

the big question is, Is the US doing enough to get the people out of jail HERE IN AMERICA FOR THE SAME CHARGE?

  12. WΛSTED TΛLENT says:

She is locked up because SHE IS A CRIMINAL if we bring her back then we'll have to bring home every other drug smuggler who gets caught

edit: I forgot she's an athlete so she's more important than your average bear

  13. Matthew Heblich says:

Could it be because she plead guilty to breaking Russian law . BOTS

  14. Bear G says:

So….there are Americans locked up in Russia years before she became a thing…she broke a drug law over there…

  15. Bear G says:

The same thing can happen if you cross in to Canada 🇨🇦..their drug laws are just as strict..remember when some NBA players went to China..and one of them got arrested for shoplifting..

  16. Bear G says:

It was here her ..E-Cig and the cannabis oil…the laws are very different. There..so when you travel check the laws there..before you go..simple…

  17. Bear G says:

If she was just a regular black American woman..nobody would care..but because she is that and a pro basketball player..is the only thing that makes this different..

  18. Matt Bastubee says:

Blame American press for bad mouthing Russia for hacking our election and saying Trump was a Russian asset without showing any evidence. They put us in bad standing with a country that was providing us rides to the ISS.

  19. Tommy Gusto says:

Trump will bring her home in the Trump Jet. Quick and easy on a Tuesday afternoon in mid October.

  20. Ronny Simon says:

If she tattooed a picture of Trump on her forehead I'm sure it would help her chances

  21. Nathaniel De La Torre says:

    Don't bring her back!

  22. Jimmy Boi says:

Why should she get special treatment?? They should treat her just as they would a Russian citizen who breaks the law.

  23. only1Roxannie says:

    She broke the law.

  24. Jill Sheppard says:

She's a criminal.who broke the law of the country she was in why are we acting like they pulled her out of the airport unjustified. You break the law you pay the price.

  25. Laura Bedford says:

I know she didnt mean to pack these cartridges supposedly, but Putin will Use her as A Pawn. She's not coming back I think.

  26. Charpe Metal says:

Bruh she pled guilty. America would have done same. If she pled ‘not guilty’ I would consider it but she admitted to her guilt which is criminal in Russia. We need to stop with the Pandering😪.

  27. Green Flash says:

It's hard for the USA to have the moral high ground on this when there are people in this country imprisoned for the same crime!
