Ingenious or simply plane weird?
An American Airlines passenger freaked out flyers after getting assigned “weird airplane seats” where passengers are seated next to the flight attendant.
A video depicting the bizarre configuration currently boasts over 230,000 views on TikTok.
“Have you ever sat within the jump seat row before?” inquired Chris Olsen, 43 — who goes by @jetset.genius on the platform — within the caption to the clip.
The San Diego-based government employee has made it his mission to land the strangest seating arrangements possible.
“I’m an aviation geek and prefer to check out weird seating layouts for the love of planes,” Olsen told Newsweek.
During a recent AA flight from Phoenix to San Diego the Californian purposefully booked himself a seat in row 10 of an Airbus A321 aircraft.
Because the video shows, the sofa-like seat only has spots for 2 people while the third is a jumpseat (designated for crewmembers at rest), which is facing the wrong way of the passenger seat.
While this arrangement might sound awkward, Olsen claimed within the captions that it’d be perfect for a “couple.”
It’s also adjoining to the emergency exit, making this couch-like configuration the proper spot in case of an evacuation.
[It] “can be an excellent seat for somebody afraid of flying,” the traveler declared. “It’s also cool because you possibly can chat with the flight attendant after they’re seated within the jump seat, and they typically have interesting stories to share.”
Many armchair travelers within the comments appeared to agree with Olsen regarding the layout.
“We aim for this seat!!” said one, while one other wrote, “Had this seat on my last flight and was great I put my bag under where the window seat can be.”
Nonetheless, not everyone was on board with being a flight attendant’s “plus two.”
“This seat is the worst,” griped one commenter. “AA has an up charge for this seat they usually don’t show the jump seat on the map. They’re smaller than normal seats.”
Within the realm of awkward airplane seats, perhaps nothing holds a candle to the windowless window seat or the “double date” arrangement.
