Chinese nuclear scientists claim to have conceptualised a small, low-cost nuclear-reactor that could power a torpedo for over 10,000 kilometres. The nuclear-powered torpedoes can travel largely undetected in a swarm across the Pacific Ocean and strike targets in the US.
In a paper published recently, Chinese researchers said they have completed a conceptual design for such a weapons system. The torpedo system would use a disposable nuclear reactor to reach and maintain a cruising speed of over 56 Kmph for 200 hours. It would then dump the reactor to the seabed and draw power from a battery to launch an attack.

It’s a good idea. They know the USA is working on shooting down missiles and it’s only a matter of time before the ability to shoot down hypersonic missiles is achieved. These weapons would require a whole new type of undersea defense. The arms race thus continues.

WHY any country needs a stealth torpedo to deliver a nuclear warhead to any country's coast is a mystery to me.
They can do it in plain sight.
China (and Russia) already drive "fishing boats" and "research vessels" and actual cargo ships to within ~12nm/14mi/22km off the U.S. coasts, military bases, and major cities. It would take them only minutes to further drive right up to the beaches and NOTHING would prevent that (unless one could first confirm what they are actually doing AND then use space/air/land-based directed energy weapons or possibly EMP weapons to stop them). Even then, they're still really close to the shore by that time)
(but keep in mind that this article is NOT about a Chinese nuclear bomb torpedo it's about a torpedo design that uses a new configuration with a nuclear electric power generating reactor to provide power to its electric motor). It's not like the Russian Poseidon with a claimed 100 Megaton yield nuclear bomb inside it.)
