This year marks the 50th anniversary of Pride in the UK, and it all started in the basement of a London university.
The Gay Liberation Front was making itself heard in protests across the capital throughout the early 70s when gay people were being arrested and same sex attraction was still considered to be a mental illness.
But by July 1972, Pride was born with 150 people taking part and a revolution was under way.

For all the people not getting that we are divided is some families still hate their kids for being gay or have scared them to silence. Half of mine don’t speak to me. We still face homophobic abuse and stereotypes along with not being allowed to give blood. There are still some people who hate pride and also public displays of affection. some friends make homophonic jokes as well. In my mums home country Zambia/Zimbabwe it’s illegal and you’ll likely be killed.
