As Liz Truss becomes Britain’s third female prime minister, a new YouGov poll shows that 50 percent of Brits are “disappointed” in her appointment as the country’s leader, compared to just 22 percent who are “pleased.” Dean of the Queen Elizabeth II Academy at Chatham House, Dr. Leslie Vinjamuri, joins News NOW to explain what pressure Truss is under as she enters 10 Downing Street and how her leadership could impact the U.S.’s “special relationship” with the U.K.

Truss is an was not elected by the people. She is weak and in short no good. Biden has now done a u turn and wants to deepen the special relationship between us. There was nothing wrong with it until he come into office. He tried to manipulate Boris Johnson and was told to get lost. Now he sees what we all here see. A weak link. So he will try again. Wants to sort the USA out first before he intrudes into others affairs.

In her mind all she is thinking about is why only 12% of people approve of her. Cost of living, Brexit problems, worsening debt, worsening economy all come a very long way behind her own ego.The new British PM should look inwards and solve its own drastic domestic problems instead of outwards about Ukraine / Russia issues etc. Only then can she win the British people trusts and improve the livelihood of its people. Trying to be nosy on international affairs that won’t solve British people’s woes would see her down fall.India just moved the UK to 5th place in the world economy.Truss should focus on UK economy and the poor in the country. She should not waste money on Ukraine conflict.Take care of your backyard before interfering in others business and trying to make enemy of China??

UK imported £63.6 billion of goods from China. This accounted for 13.3% of all goods imports, making China our largest importing partner. There were £18.8 billion of goods exports to China (5.8% of all goods exports), making China our sixth-largest exporting partner.Liz Truss is a stupid Ignorant Obsessive Anglo Saxon mindset new UK Pm,she is going to declare China an official threat for the first time if she becomes the new British Prime Minister. Is she going to declare war against Russia too?If that’s true, then she is worsening the relations between Britain and some of the most powerful countries in the world.

What can these kind of actions bring to the country?India has exceeded Britain to become the fifth largest GDP in the world. What do British politicians think about that?Likely Indonesia will taking over the UK with bankruptcy staring at them with inflation predicted to be 22% by Goldman sachet to be number 6 economy??? Boris Johnson is pursuing closer economic ties with China by restarting trade talks that have been on ice for years. The U.K.'s department for international trade has been tasked with organizing high-level ministerial talks with the Chinese government for the first time since 2018. The decision risks triggering a backlash from Tory MPs who are concerned about China's human rights record and the security implications of establishing closer ties with Beijing.

British government officials are in discussions about holding a meeting of the U.K.-China joint economic and trade committee (known as JETCO) this year. Such meetings between the two countries were held annually until 2018, when bilateral relations deteriorated over Beijing’s actions in Hong Kong. A government official said it was Johnson personally who was pushing for the talks to restart.

The meetings used to involve the British international trade secretary and their Chinese counterpart as well as more junior officials. The U.K. government is also planning to reopen a second avenue of talks with Beijing this year. , the UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue, which has not been held since 2019.“The Treasury are keen to revive it for this year and are nervous about a more hawkish China policy,” one government official said. The decision to pursue a closer trading relationship with China is risky for Johnson, who is politically vulnerable because of accusations he broke the law by attending gatherings in Downing Street. The move has already angered a vocal group of Conservative MPs who take a hawkish stance towards Beijing.

“If this government decides that they are going to kowtow to China by going over there and begging them to trade I have to tell you that they can think again.”“I make no bones about this: I will not let it rest if we start now, amid all the evidence of genocide, brutality, crackdowns on peaceful protesters, and go traipsing along there as though nothing happened. There’s no good them telling us that they’re going to clean up their act — because they never do.”
“The government should operate a coherent China policy which reflects our views on everything from the treatment of the Uyghurs to trade issues like Huawei to the behavior over Taiwan and Hong Kong.”

“This seems to be completely at odds with that and it is hard to see how it could deliver success — if it did it would come at a cost of undermining every other aspect of our attempts to make the Chinese behave in a civilized manner.”Bob Seely, a Tory MP and member of the foreign affairs committee, said: “We need to deal with the world as it is, not as we would want it to be, but I don’t understand why we are so keen to have high-level ministerial contacts when the Chinese government is sanctioning U.K. MPs, when it has recognized the Falklands as being Argentinian, when it is dismantling Hong Kong’s democratic government.”

“The government is divided on China and has no strategy." He said the government "went through a series of clumsy U-turns on Huawei and nuclear power. Now it is zig-zagging again and sending mixed messages, with [Foreign Secretary] Liz Truss talking tough and the chancellor chasing cheques.”China is the U.K.'s third-largest trading partner and the value of bilateral trade between the two countries was £94.5 billion over the last four quarters. The trade department said it had no plans to negotiate a free-trade agreement with Beijing.

Only condolences to the British people. They get rid of a bad cheater just to be hit with another worse politician. When has a conservative government ever been successful during an economic crisis?Great Expectations…. will make us very disappointed 😞Chevron expect a winter of discontent and then a general election and hopefully a destroyed Tory party. he definition of insanity is voting for the same failing thing and expecting a different result., This is the first time that I watch any of your news and appreciate the quality.

UK is a doomed country, overtaken by India to be 5th largest economy .Likely to over taken by Indonesia to be the 6th largest economy.both candidates were and are the worst choice, please note they were NOT voted in by the UK public but the Tories. It is expected the e new administration to face a massive 1997-style loss in the next election. I think it's beneficial not only for Britain but for the Tories. They've been in power too long and need to be out of power and regroup, get new blood.

"cut taxes and generator growth" is politician speak for "I'm giving my rich friends all the benefits, while you peons pay for it"And people thought that it couldn't get any worse than Boris.😂😂😂 I guess there will always be someone worse. So Truss joins the winning team like kids supporting the football team that just won the championship. From liberal to conservative from remain to Brexit. So basically she'll say anything as long as its the popular thing to say,"I don't to give out handouts – we call "trussthem" tax cuts which quite fairly puts even more money in the hands of the rich."

The Tories have just replaced a clown with a worse clown. It’s desperate times here in the U.K. Scotland needs out of this failing Union. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿What to expect from Liz chaos just pure and simple the next couple of months will be very interesting to watch if you do not live in the UK
U.K. on the road to an International Monetary Fund bailout? That’s the view of Peter Chatwell, head of global macro strategies trading at Mizuho Securities, as expressed in an interview on Bloomberg .Liz Truss, a idiotic New PM with no economic foundation ,only a deliverance month without real substance, is promising fiscal policy the government can’t afford. And he doesn’t believe the Bank of England can get inflation anywhere near its 2% mandate over the medium term.

“I’m thinking of two potential crises that this reminds me of. One is the [European Exchange Rate Mechanism], so 1992. And then I’m thinking about the possibility of an IMF bailout, like in 1976.”If the Truss government is then replaced by a Labor-led government, Chatwell said, then those are the scenarios the markets will increasingly price in, he said.He said the pound GBPUSD, 0.03% falling to parity against the dollar isn’t priced into options markets, and said the Bank of England may need to take interest rates to 5%.

Do people realise the overwhelming sense of normality that has taken over and that we all feel not seeing Boris there and the appointment of Liz truss immediately has restored the normal way of doing things.
I don't know how good she will be as prime minister, but at least things will feel normal and not the mumbo jumbo tense mad world of Boris we were all in. It's great to feel normal again and not the constant tension and headache we all felt under Boris
    Thank god.

The UK population had NOTHING to do with this election. It was Conservative Party members that voted for Liz Truss as replacement of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, NOT the British public voting. It was NOT a UK General Election. NBC News got this completely wrong.
