The Rangers are still looking to search out some form of consistency. You only don’t know what you’re going to get from Gerard Gallant’s squad on a nightly basis. You get eight goals in Detroit Wednesday then a 2-1 loss in Nashville Saturday. With the Metro division recovering with teams just like the Devils and Islanders improving, the Rangers are going to wish to search out their way. This team is not any lock to make the playoffs.
To debate how the Blueshirts can find some consistency together with some key roster decisions they should make, we bring you a latest episode of “Up In The Blue Seats” podcast. Producer Andrew Harts filled in for me as co-host together with Mollie Walker and the Hall of Famer Larry Brooks.
Up In The Blue Seats Podcast with Mollie Walker & Andrew Harts:
- WEST COAST TRIP: Breaking down the roller-coaster ride to this point and where the team stands heading into their West Coast trip.
- EARLY-SEASON OVERREACTIONS: Should the Rangers be considering a switch at backup goalie from Jaroslav Halak? Is goal differential a priority? Has the Metro division gotten a lot better while the Rangers have gotten worse?
- MAILBAG QUESTIONS: Who’s the odd player out with the cap crunch and roster decisions? Is Jimmy Vesey in the highest six sustainable? Any likelihood that Matt Robertson or Will Cuylle get recalled from Hartford?
Larry Brooks Interview:
The Post’s Hockey Hall of Fame author
- INCONSISTENCY: Team has not been consistent. If Igor Shesterkin can play higher, they might be advantageous.
- REAVES’ ROLE: If Ryan Reaves had higher foot speed, he can be playing higher. Can he sustain? Don’t think Ryan Carpenter goes to be the guy to go. Wouldn’t expect them to make a move on this West Coast trip.
- POWER-PLAY STRUGGLES: The primary power-play unit has been staying on too long. They’ve been league average to this point this season.
- SAMMY BLAIS: He clearly shouldn’t be 100%. The previous couple of games he’s played a bit more to his game.
- DIRTY GOALS: Everyone desires to see dirty goals, but that’s just not their team. Don’t think Vincent Trocheck has found his game and luxury level yet here. He’s not at the extent he was at in Carolina.
