The intense heat wave blazing across the U.S. is continuing to crank out record-breaking temperatures. Two out of three Americans are experiencing heat above 90 degrees. Some cities are reaching new daily highs, including Dallas at 109 degrees. Texas is testing the state’s energy consumption, which is expected to swell to levels never before reached using equipment that dates back nearly 50 years.

I saw around 1000 wind turbines driving I-40 180 miles through north Texas. So maybe there is 25,000 in the whole state? And the grid went kaput last winter.

It won't be long now. Wet bulb temps are manifesting everywhere around the Earth. Human habitat is burning to the ground and so is the ability to grow, store, and transport food. All it will take is for the frail power grid to fail in a place like Texas in these temps and millions will die. Wet bulb conditions are a combination of heat and humidity in which the human body loses its ability to cool itself. Ignorant Republicans and their uneducated voters will soon regret that they denied climate science 20 years ago. Climate change is now abrupt, exponential, and irreversible. It is now a runaway climate and within 5 years there won't be another human being standing on Earth.

  18. Michael Hollis says:

Texas has it's own electric regulations. They failed and let people freeze to death during winter. They should be ashamed that they have to ask TX to conserve. #ERCOT

So, how hot does it have to get before city mayors declare their jurisdictions "clothing optional?" Shed even the lightest clothing and one sheds 20 degrees. Save lives, go natural.

  23. Rotormatic says:

If anyone is planning to live in such areas for some extended period of years, I recommend rooftop solar photovoltaic panels. Heatwaves always come with abundant clear blue skies and the solar panels will just love to eat up that sunshine — exactly during the daytime hours when you need A/C the most too.

A typical detached home has enough rooftop space for some 6000W or more of solar enough to run a typical 3500W to 4500W whole home A/C with the surplus to power the neighbor's house too which further reduces stress on the grid. You'll likely getting energy credits for that excess as well. No other power source blends so seamlessly into the urban landscape like solar does and solar does it silently with no moving parts.

Those rooftop panels reduce strain on the grid too so provides a double benefit. A triple benefit is the panels reduce heat on your home's roof by acting as as type of insulation/reflector. The temperature differential between unshaded and shaded roof would easily be some 45-degrees F. This is the temperature difference between able to keep your hand against the roof versus so scorching hot that your hand will flinch away in pain.

It’s July. July is hot in the United States. I worked outside six days a week in 1988 here in western Pennsylvania. That summer, we had 44 days above 90°, and we hit 100° one day, which has only happened three times in western Pennsylvania since World War II..
not every year is super hot for a long time, not every year is particularly rainy, not every year is cool relatively speaking in the summer. But it is not unusual..
Just look back at history of the 1930s. That was called the dust bowl years in the Midwest. Tens of thousands of people moved out of that area after that long dry spell. Unpleasant, but not unusual

95 here today but i haven't turned on the AC, in fact i haven't used AC for over a decade. I don't understand why ppl has to be in the 80s in the winter but under 70 in the summer. why not just experience the 80s indoor in the summer and under 70 in the winter. Of course, people with health condition shouldn't try it, stay warm and hydrated. lol.

 And indeed, We will make them taste of the Penalty of this (life) prior to the supreme Penalty, in order that they may (repent and) return. (The Holy Quran Sura As Sajdah-32:21)

 Mischief has appeared on land and sea because of (the meed) that the hands of men have earned, that ((Allah)) may give them a taste of some of their deeds: in order that they may turn back (from Evil).

 Say: "Travel through the earth and see what was the end of those before (you): Most of them worshipped others besides Allah." (The Holy Quran Sura Rom-30:41-42)

I have conveyed the truth to the people of the world, please don't make bad comments.

I wonder how cold the coming record cold temps will be. Everything has been so extreme. The cold still seems more deadly- as so many aren’t used to freezing temperatures- and those who are, aren’t used to the teens.

Israel and all the Jews of the world must help Ukraine militarily and financially, and when Ukraine wins, Israel and all the Jews must move to Ukraine and establish a state in Ukraine
A green European state instead of Palestine, all of them are endless problems in the first place, the Jews lived in Ukraine historically, not in Palestine

If they had their power gride with other states the cost would be lower. I used to live in TX and I had the AC on and it cost me $130 in apartment. My parents Almost pay $300 living in a house. Now the apartment they live in is almost $150 and its smaller than my old apartment of 2 beds and one bath. I now live in OR and pay $40-$60 a month with just running fans and all my electronics on. Also why didn't they prepare for this at all, if it's that old you should fix it to withstand the usage, don't tell people to not use what they pay for.
