Forget bellhops and key drops — one TikTok traveler says the fastest technique to try of your hotel is to… not try in any respect.
In a viral clip uploaded last month, the lady movies herself strutting out of her hotel without a lot as a nod to the front desk.
“For older generations: That is the way you try of a hotel. You only walk out,” the video read.
“The front desk doesn’t need you to inform them you’re trying out and so they don’t need you at hand them your room key,” she doubled down within the caption.

But her “ghost exit” hack didn’t exactly get a standing ovation within the comment section.
“Younger generations — that is how you allow if you happen to don’t wish to be kind and possibly give another person the early check-in they actually need,” one critic clapped back.
One other noted, “No, but as a former housekeeper, it makes our jobs so much easier if you happen to’re polite and let someone know.”
An extra user replied, “you do you .. I’m not afraid of a minor social interaction.”

“Travel for work. A whole lot of hotels. I at all times try on the desk… Key, receipt, & it’s the proper thing to do,” another person insisted.
One other piled on: “Trying out isn’t an old person thing, it’s empathetic to the staff.”
Travel agent Shay Martin told TODAY.com in a recent interview that technically, “there’s nothing stopping you from leaving a hotel or resort without trying out.”
While walking out won’t land you on a hospitality no-fly list, Martin says it doesn’t mean you must.
“Trying out on the desk is a courtesy to future guests and hotel staff, nevertheless it is simply useful if there are guests or staff available to make the most of your courtesy,” Martin explained.
And there’s one other perk: avoiding a nasty billing surprise. Stopping by the desk gives guests a probability to iron out any mini-bar “mysteries” before the fees hit their card.
And this isn’t the primary time travel etiquette has ruffled feathers.
As previously reported by The Latest York Post, experts have warned that overpacking — especially hauling giant suitcases through ancient cobblestone streets — is a rookie mistake that irritates locals, delights pickpockets, and leaves tourists sweaty, sore, and seriously regretting their packing decisions.
So try if you happen to want — experts say — just don’t check your manners on the door.
