Former President Trump greenlighted Steve Bannon to cooperate with the January 6th committee, waiving away executive privilege over Bannon’s testimony. Bannon is open to testifying and is set to stand trial for contempt of congress within weeks over his previously steadfast refusal to cooperate with the committee. His lawyer is saying he prefers to testify live, though unlikely. breaking news: Judge won't delay Bannon's trial after his last-minute stunt to delay it, and his other last-minute stunt offering to cooperate with Jan. 6 panel. He is set to go on trial next Monday for contempt of Congress after he blew off the Jan. 6 committee's subpoena. The Judge also letting him know what excuses he can't come into court with.
Since Oct. 2021, Bannon has been stonewalling the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol – until now. He can’t trick people who know the process and the law. He was held in contempt and indicted last year in November for:
1) Not appearing for testimony and refusing to answer questions
2) Not submitting documents. Even if he shows up to a hearing, there's still those documents.
3) The committee and the Justice Department have long maintained that Bannon nor Trump have no basis claiming or waiving executive privilege. Despite those facts, Bannon has used the purported executive privilege claim as a reason not to cooperate with the committee, even though he only worked at the White House for seven months in 2017 – left where he became a private citizen. That was more than three years before the Jan. 6 attack at issue, and Bannon was no longer a government employee at the time of the subpoena, nor was Trump the President. Biden is the president of the United States who controls what's called the ‘privileges,’ not Trump who has no valid claims to be waiving executive privileges over Bannon’s testimony. Bannon was also involved in Trump’s efforts to hold on to power after the 2020 election
