The Yankees are closing in on a alternative for legendary radio play-by-play broadcaster John Sterling.
Mariners broadcaster Dave Sims is a finalist for the WFAN job, sources told The Post.
One other source added he’s “strongly in the combo.”

A deal won’t be finalized until after the 2024 season concludes because the Yankees head toward the playoffs.
Other candidates include Ricky Ricardo, who is an element of the group that has replaced Sterling this season, and Marlins TV announcer Paul Severino, a source said.
The one who is chosen will work alongside Suzyn Waldman, who has been calling games within the Yankees radio booth since 2005.
The Seattle Times previously reported Sims has interviewed for the job.
Sterling retired earlier this season after a legendary run, but will return for the Yankees’ postseason stretch.

“I miss meeting with all the opposite broadcasters and writers and folks behind the scenes,” Sterling told WFAN of his decision to return. “I type of miss that. And I’ll inform you what I actually miss is broadcasting with Suzyn, who’s such a wonderful partner and we were together for thus long. It will give me a probability at a final hurrah, and work with Suzyn again.”
Sims, 71, was a show host for the Yankees’ flagship station, WFAN, earlier in his profession.
