Euro zone inflation jumped to another record high and will soon hit double-digit territory, heralding a string of big interest rate hikes even as a painful recession appears increasingly certain. Driven by expensive gas and a devastating drought, consumer prices jumped more than expected in August and further rises are already in the pipeline, suggesting more pain for households and businesses as they burn through their cash reserves. As Europe remains powerless to stave off mounting economic crises on multiple fronts, FRANCE 24 is joined by Anna Creti, Professor of Economics, and Director of the Climate Economics Chair and the Economics of Gas Chair at Paris Dauphine University. Ms. Creti says that the current energy crisis is quite complex, amid war and climate change, and it could worsen as we head into winter. She warns that “we cannot really say that we have a unique cause and therefore a unique remedy.”

The EU workers/tax payers are about to see third world conditions. Petro Energy suppliers making huge profits off misery. Our ( Green Energy Minister) announced a possible windfall tax on Energy companies last week, by Friday same companies increased prices by 28%..He literally gave them a heads up!

Europa falls in favour of Ukraine ❗

European politicians are scheming with their devious policies as Europe goes hungry and freezes.

What a dreadful instance of bullying with unrestrained

Western governments' provocative and subversive policies are to blame for the situation as it is today.

The West's actions are alleged to have schizophrenia-like characteristics towards Russia.❗

Cost is determined by the algorithms of Supply and Demand. One cannot immediately affect Supply, but Demand can be regulated by the judicious use of Common Sense.

I don’t see how a market can resolve distribution of a finite supply with low elasticity. I’d be more interested in alternative allocation mechanisms that distinguish needs from demands, and address inequalities and over consumption. For example, are Europeans burning gas to keep street lights on at night? Ultimately, everyone on the planet has to decarbonize, and Europe will model how that will look.

thank you USA. you are going to be frozen in the winter. While you are burning wood and logs in winter. you are speeding up greenhouse effect. You are helping USA killing our planet. Thank you very much.

I think they should try talk with Putin about the energy. It far worse than Ukraine capitulation. The EU can’t fight Russia like Ukraine. It’s for politicians to apologize to Ukraine and say our bad choices in the passed .

Isn't it time the voters In europe find out who is lying to them really! time to find out

  31. Noreen Holtzen says:

She can’t answer the questions in a straight way. Europeans elites are obeying Washington to have the ordinary public of Europe strangled. When the public are desperate they are easier to control. The NATO interference in Ukraine since 2014 is never talked about.

  32. Noreen Holtzen says:

The reason for the energy crisis is framed as being out of Europe’s control, the war in Ukraine, but it is completely in Europe’s control because the cause was the voluntary European sanctions on Russia, not the conflict it self as constantly quoted as the cause of the energy crisis. Europe could end these sanctions today and humbly negotiate with Russia to resupply and there would be a good chance that they would have some success. It has absolutely no effect on the conflict as is merely a case of Europe getting over its ego and detaching from Washington’s destructive orders.

  33. Hanno franz says:

We should have never got to this level of dependance on Russian gas. This fault was mainly due to the German position. For this reason, it is surprising that the EU has achieved a common ground on the sanctions against Russia. Tough times to go through but we'll make it.

  35. Lada minuetkittens says:

Just look at NATO OR UN summit four years ago. Trump is asking Germany to do something about their energy situation or they will be 100% dependent on Putin. And look at those German politicians laughing at him. German TV should show this short video to their citizens every evening. They should see clearly those laughing politicians. NO MORE LAUGH NOW. HE TOLD THEM !!!!
