The UK has declared a state of emergency, wildfires are burning across Spain, France and Greece and hundreds of deaths in Portugal and Spain have been attributed to the extreme heat. CBS News foreign correspondent Ramy Inocencio is in London’s Hyde Park where people are turning to public lakes for relief.

Remember that in Europe air conditioning is not common at all. I live in Texas and yes we get heat like this BUT we have air conditioning everywhere.

To the people in the comments who don't know what you're talking about: summers in western Europe have never been this hot. During my childhood, it was rare to get 30 degrees once or twice a summer. Now we have 34-36 degrees each summer. 90% of private homes don't have AC. And no, we can't just buy one because most of us live in rented apartments and it's not allowed to install an AC unit. Our houses were built to keep the heat in, not keep it out. My parents literally live in an attic apartment of a house built in 1890. They have 32 degrees INSIDE their apartment. Our glaciers are melting. The winters barely bring any snow. Cheers from Switzerland

In fhe Philippines, since we are near the equator, this heat is quite normal especially during summer (that’s why every house here has an AC unit) but seeing this kind of heat in Europe is alarming since they are not accustom to this.

Very cold summer, no sun.
the melting ice caps at the poles still act like brakes when the axis tilts. When a train brakes, you can see sparks flying on the track. It is the same with the earth. The ice at the poles is still slowing down the tilting of the earth. When they're melted, there's a hard impact to another degree to the sun. The impact of the earth is cushioned by the weight of the ice. That's why the forests are burning everywhere, because the ice at the poles causes these flying sparks. Sounds stupid. But it's the truth.
