“We will use every tool at our disposal to ensure that pregnant women get the emergency medical treatment to which they are entitled under federal law,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said. “And we will closely scrutinize state abortion laws to ensure that they comply with federal law.”

The Idaho law, which is set to take effect on Aug. 25, criminalizes all abortions. Anyone who performs an abortion could face two to five years imprisonment. According to the Justice Department, the Idaho near-total abortion ban violates federal law, which allows for the procedure when emergency care is necessary to stabilize patients. As it stands, the state’s law would only allow abortions if the mother’s life is at risk, or in cases of rape or incest if the assaults were previously reported to law enforcement and the records given to the abortion providers.

The decision was left up to the States by the Supreme Court. There is no law or constitutional requirement for Idaho to allow abortions. We in Idaho have made the choice that is right for us.

uh huh… let break this down the doctors get to determine what IS and ISN'T a medical emergency not politicians, its to my knowledge that any doctors will perform an abortion under the conditions where there is a high risk of the mother losing her life or causing long term physical damage (this don't include scars or C sections) in the other cases where a doctor WILL perform an abortion is in cases of rape/incest and they will have to have a police report to confirm that… there is NO law that can be made to prevent a doctor from doing this so can the DOJ explain what they're suing Idaho for??

i mean there is videos on Hunter Biden laptop with him doing drugs, laundering money, taking bribes on behalf of his father, conning ppl, human trafficking, child abuse etc etc… so the DOJ ain't going to go after him?? uh huh.. we seeing it, you can't hide…

I don’t understand all the political fighting around the legality or morality of abortions. Rights not afforded to citizens in the Constitution are subject to the jurisdiction, legislation, and regulation of the State and Federal Government, and essentially fall into one bucket—your rights end where another’s begin.

There is no Constitutional right to abortion, but there’s also no infringement on my rights if someone wants to get one. That being said, I also have no obligation to pay for a non-medically necessary abortion if someone uses publicly funded healthcare to cover the costs of the procedure. (I use medically necessary to indicate that the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother or the child, or that the pregnancy is the result of incest, rape, or other form of a sexual crime/sexual traumatic event)

So as someone who would not choose an abortion unless it were medically necessary—I have no right to enforce that opinion on someone else. I do however have a right to disagree with the decisions of others, and advocate for education about resources to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

Ultimately, a bi-partisan agreement should allow abortions to be a federally protected procedure, declare the parameters for identifying a medically necessary procedure, protecting and affording medical professionals the right to identify and support cases of medically and non-medically necessary abortions, and allow states to determine the financial obligations for abortion procedures.

I am soooooo happy to see something like this. I am born and raised Idahoan (I know right)…retired from the Army and a Navy veteran. Left in early 80’s and Idaho was a fairly normal place to live. Upon retiring we moved back to in mid 2000’s. I do NOT recognize this state. Most everyone is from California now and they brought their f*ucked – uppedness with them. From the Lt. Governor being insane to dairy farmers “legally” being able to mistreat and purposefully hurt animals…this is the land of “Let’s Go Brandon”, when it was all WW2 veterans and the normalcy one would expect. NOT NOW! All of our politicians (on the national stage at least…I assume the state politicians are also) Koch Network funded. So, this state .Ike most every state that they have touched since 1981, has turned to shit! 🫤

Imagine all the could-be babies that never had chance to be an fetus because of the ban on abortion has killed a mother entirely.

Protecting abortion rights means giving the mother another chance to have a baby, and that’s what republicans don’t understand.

Laws that hurt the mother are laws that hurt chances for future lives. This is why abortion rights give mothers for another chance to reproduce. And this is why Republicans are the real baby killers because they kill mothers which in turn kills opportunities for future lives.

  30. Carolyn Christy says:

All hospitals have to do is stop accepting federal funding and they won't have to deal with abortion issues. They also won't have to deal with Medicare, Medicaid, veterans, state and federal employees, certain suppliers of pharmaceuticals and supplies and services, the list goes on and on… Yeah, just go with private pay only and see how well that works out.

Merrick Garland is trying to save lives.
Let's be completely honest about what is happening. Republicans are waging war against all women.
They are so threatened by women, who have a voice, they are willing to kill them.
There are presently several cases of women being forced to carry dead fetuses to term.
The minute a baby dies inside it's mother, it becomes a life threatening situation for the mother.
Republicans hate women so much, that red states all over this country, are giving them a death sentence.
They are forcing babies to be delivered, who will suffer incredible pain and struggle greatly, only to die shortly after birth.
They are banning access to birth control. Birth control does not kill babies, it prevents pregnancies from happening. How is that keeping abortions from being necessary?
They are even banning plan B.
This is a pill that works to prevent pregnancy, in the first 24 hours after unprotected sex. It is given to rape victims, at the hospital, when they are there collecting evidence of the assault.
There is no fetus, so there is no need to ban it.
The Republicans are not just waging war on women. They are waging war on the very children, that they claim to care about.
Republicans consistently vote against every program that benefits children.
They vote to cut free breakfast and lunch, for children living in poverty. They vote to eliminate after school programs, for children who's parents have to work two or three jobs, because they live in a state, where Republicans fight like hell, to never increase minimum wage, to an amount that blue states passed years ago.
Republicans fought to eliminate healthcare for millions of Americans, including children, in the middle of a raging pandemic.
The latest attack launched by Republicans, is their scheme, to dumb down the children of America.
Ron Desantis banned math, because of critical race theory.??????
Now Texas is burning books. The diary of Anne Frank is no longer allowed in Texas, along with any books that actually teach children, the reality of European immigration.
The genocide of First Nations People, which still goes on. Now corporations and dirty politicians, poison the water, air and soil, of reservations, all over America.
The horrors of slavery? Nope. According to Republicans, that was no big thing, and the woke crowd, blows it out of proportion.
The Republicans are now forcing teachers and school libraries, to turn over their books, to be deemed acceptable, or to be seized and burned.
The Republicans in Texas, let their residents freeze to death, in their homes, during the coldest temps in 50 years.
The oil tycoons called it, a windfall.
The brilliant politicians of Texas, deregulated the oil industry, and even claimed after over a week of deadly conditions, that the residents of Texas, would rather go another week without power, water or access to food, than have the oil industry bothered with regulations. The only thing that regulations do, is protect people.
Many of the deranged things that Republicans are doing, and the Maga base cheer for, are the very things that Hitler did.
it's now or never people. We need to take our country back, before we have to plan an escape, because these monsters are perfectly willing to use the military and pseudo soldiers, against the public. They have made it abundantly clear, that killing Americans, is no problem for them.

Trump's Supreme Court and most Republicans have taken away the right of women in the United States to make choices over their own bodies. Republicans are also working on restricting voter rights, making it harder to vote. In November women will be out in huge numbers fighting against this crap. Remember to vote in November for Democracy, not Trumpocracy.
