Before Terry McLaurin and the Commanders lost to the Jets on Christmas Eve, he announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Caitlin Winfrey in an Instagram post Saturday.
“I can’t wait to spend the remaining of my life with the one who has my heart,” McLaurin, 28, wrote, as Winfrey unveiled her latest ring. “Caitlin, I thank God for granting me favor and bringing our journey’s together. I’m so excited to see what he has in store for us as we navigate this life hand and hand.”
McLaurin proposed to Winfrey at The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory before the pair posed for photos, with one picture he shared within the post captured at sunset and one other showing the couple getting into a ship.
“House is wherever you might be and I’m at my best after I’m with you. I really like you,” he added within the Instagram comment, with a heart emoji at the tip.
The pair met at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, where McLaurin starred on 4 state title teams before committing to Ohio State as a Class of 2014 recruit, in accordance with The Athletic in 2022.
In past Instagram posts, McLaurin has written about what his relationship with Winfrey means, in accordance with People.com.
His birthday tribute to Winfrey in 2022 included a line about how he’s “higher due to you,” while in March, McLaurin wrote how Winfrey “can light up any room you walk into along with your infectious personality.”
McLaurin was drafted within the third round of the 2019 draft, and the Indianapolis native has topped 1,000 yards in each of the past three seasons — and, with two games remaining in 2023, he needs 115 yards to succeed in that threshold again.
He signed a three-year extension in July 2022, price $71 million, to solidify his role because the Commanders’ top receiving option through the tip of the 2025 season.
In Washington’s 30-28 loss against the Jets, McLaurin caught three passes on five targets for 50 yards because the Commanders benched starter Sam Howell within the third quarter and turned to Jacoby Brissett.
He’ll face the 49ers and Cowboys in the ultimate two games of the regular season.
