
TORONTO — I’m enough of an egomaniac that I would like you to read every word of this column, but when even low-key praise for a way the Yankees have performed within the hardest division during Aaron Boone’s tenure goes to set you off on a social media screed — or worse — now is perhaps a superb time to return to knitting or collecting stamps or whatever calms you in such moments.
In Boone’s eight seasons, the AL East has been MLB’s top-to-bottom best division — and it hasn’t really been close. And the Yankees have been the lone constant of strong performance.
Consider:
• Over the past three seasons, all five AL East teams have made the playoffs a minimum of once and every has finished under .500 — except the Yankees.
