Throughout Anya Taylor-Joy’s profession, she never felt confident about her “far apart eyes.”
An interview that the 27-year-old did with W magazine back in 2016 has resurfaced, following a recent tweet that has gone viral talking about her facial expression.
The account Pop Tingz posted in regards to the old profile on April 14 and noted how Joy stopped looking in mirrors after seeing mean comments online.
Within the “W” story, the “Split” star recalled how social media contributed to her low self-esteem.
“I can definitely remember when Facebook was a thing and I used to be never aware that my eyes were far apart, after which someone tagged me in a picture with a fish they usually were like, ‘That is you ’cause your eyes are, like, here,’” she explained to the publication.
“And I used to be really upset about it and I didn’t enjoy it and I type of stopped looking in mirrors for a really very long time,” she admitted.
The “Queen’s Gambit” icon went on: “I still don’t really spend a whole lot of time in front of mirrors because I don’t really should take care of my face. Unfortunately, y’all do.”
She also recollected how her friends used to throw balls at her head because her “eyes really were on each side of my face.”
“It became common knowledge within the playground that should you wanted me to catch a ball, you needed to throw it together with my head ’cause should you just threw it straight here, I’d just be like, ‘Oh, my God. What? What happened? What’s happening?’” she sighed.
Joy also confessed that she’s learned to like herself over time.
“And now it’s like my face has grown a bit more. I’m type of growing into myself. I’m a bit less awkward,” she said.
Many fans rushed to Joy’s defense following the unearthed interview.
“Individuals are making fun of her appearance? They have to need glasses or something. She look good to me,” one user wrote on Twitter in response to Pop Tingz’s post.
One other chimed in: “That is heartbreaking. It’s just because she looks ethereal, and never just like the cookie cutter influencer/Kardashian image that’s absolutely friggen in all places. Anytime I see her on screen, I’m just hypnotized and captivated by her beauty. She is my #1 girl crush til the day I die.”
“She’s pretty tho? Why take heed to ugly web trolls,” another person pondered.
“She’s gorgeous. People need to go away her alone,” one other demanded, while one cosigned that toxic haters should back off.
“People truly do live out their mean girl fantasies on the web far an excessive amount of, she’s beautiful, stop commenting on how people look,” they said.
