Delta Air Lines said it’s cutting all flights to at least one major US airport starting in November.

The airline’s flights to Midland, a significant airport in Texas, will likely be phased out, with the last flights from that airport being Nov. 8, the Street reported.

While Delta reported strong earnings within the second quarter of 2025, CEO Edward Bastian said the airline could be “adjusting our capability to match demand.”

Routes being canceled include those between Austin Bergstrom International Airport and Midland International Air and Space Port.

The flight route is to be discontinued largely on account of a scarcity of demand, with data from the Department of Transportation showing that load aspects were under 60% prior to now yr.

Delta has consistently flown three routes each day to the airport and is now pulling out entirely.

Based on the Street, some have theorized that the one reason Delta was operating this route was to take care of access to gates on the Austin airport, where there’s set to be a significant expansion by the airline.

“While I’m dissatisfied to learn that Delta Air Lines will now not be servicing our airport, it doesn’t diminish our commitment to making sure Midland International Air & Space Port continues to thrive and meet the needs of our residents and people traveling through the Permian Basin,” Councilwoman Robin Poole said in a press release.

Those that have flights booked through Delta from this airport might want to book with a unique carrier to get there.

Delta will contact passengers who have already got tickets through this airport to provide them a refund, though passengers are encouraged to not cancel the flight before being contacted by Delta to make sure that they receive their refund.

Luckily, Southwest Airlines operates one each day flight from Midland to Austin, which is probably going going to proceed.

Nevertheless, reports have shown that Midland officials are looking into ways to expand connections from the airport and will likely be investing tens of hundreds of thousands right into a terminal expansion in addition to improvements in customer support.

Meanwhile, Delta will proceed to have a powerful presence in Austin, with recent routes to Cancun and Cabo San Lucas leaving from town.
