You’ll be able to put this within the category of, you couldn’t make this up when you tried.
When Caitlin Clark went up for a layup and was fouled by Angel Reese on Sunday during a game between the Fever and Sky, the ball went flying into the stands and nearly clobbered a fan if it wasn’t for the short reflexes of the person sitting next to them.
So who was that fan?
It was none apart from Jon Ledecky, the uncle of famed American Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky and the co-owner of the Islanders.
And the one who saved the Isles’ owner from being hit by the ball was his nephew Michael, who’s Katie Ledecky’s brother.
In a post shared to Michael’s Instagram story and posted on X by USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, a screenshot of the play shows Michael getting his hand in front of the ball that had been headed right for his uncle’s head.
“[Angel Reese’s] Flagrant 1 on [Caitlin Clark] + saving uncle Jon’s noggin on same play,” Michael captioned the story.

Ledecky had been shooting a video of the play on the ground on the time of the flagrant foul and captured the play on camera.
Toward the tip, an arm might be briefly seen coming into the shot after which the phone seems to drop down.

The Caitlin Clark phenomenon has drawn loads of celebs to Fever games this season, and now she gave a warm welcome to an NHL owner who was presumably in Indianapolis to look at Katie Ledecky compete on the Olympic swimming trails in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Jon Ledecky has co-owned the Islanders alongside Scott Malkin because the two entered right into a deal to buy the team from the late Charles Wang in 2014.
The 2 took over majority ownership of the hockey team in 2016.
Clark finished the sport with a game-high 23 points, while pulling doling out nine assists and knocking down eight rebounds within the 93-81 Indiana win.
